FAQS

Why do I need a calibration service company that is accredited?

To meet your customer’s quality requirements. If you are a manufacturer of steel or other metal goods and work in an industry such as Automotive or Aerospace, your customer will be required to show proof that the processes used to heat treat their customer’s parts have been performed by calibrated instrumentation traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is only achieved by using a calibration service accredited by a certified house of accreditation such as Laboratory Accreditation Bureau which has accredited HTSU.

My company doesn’t feel we need to do uniformity surveys. Why is this necessary?

Certifying the uniformity of a furnace is an important step in ensuring your process will result in good parts. A furnace that fails a Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) is likely to produce bad product and can, therefore, result in reworks for your company. In a worst case scenario, should your customer have a recall occur, your process may be identified as the cause resulting in a costly situations for all concerned. TUS’s also can reveal furnace problems such as bad door seals or burners that need adjustments and repairs can be completed before real problems occur.

The goal of CQI-9 is the development of a heat treat management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. Annual assessments are conducted to re-examine the continuing compliance with the HTSA.

Do I really need to do quarterly Preventive Maintenance (PMs) functions?

PMs are a proactive tool utilized to keep your equipment in good running condition and your downtime to a minimum. PM programs increase equipment reliability and quality of your processes reducing unexpected equipment failure and increasing productivity.
Companies that do not have the personnel or the time to concentrate on their PMs often turn to HTSU to come in and complete all the PM functions in a matter of a few days. HTSU can send in 1 technician or 6 and complete all necessary PMs during your shutdown periods or anytime you determine.
